In the illuminations of famous women found in Bocaccio’s On Famous Women, the fabric and garments worn by important figures guide the reader. By examining fabric choice, style of cut and colour we can see that these choices make complex narratives easier to follow by helping the viewer to understand the characters’ life progression.
